Dream Workshop On the Making

By: Fargo Bcn

Violence against women and girls is one of the prevalent human rights violations of our time. Globally, almost three out of five women have been subjected to physical abuse or sexual violence at least once. In Iran, an uprising has now escalated after the death of Jina Mahsa Amini, who was mercilessly maltreated by the Islamic Iranian police because of not correctly wearing her hijab. In Afghanistan and other parts of the world, especially in the Middle East, women are subjected to all sorts of deprivation, and their human rights are ignored. They are mistreated, abused, raped, and enslaved.

Against the background of multiple and protracted crises around the globe coupled with a growing backlash on women's rights, the government, non-government organizations, and the church organization in any society have a duty to contribute to eliminating violence and having Marhaban-Tampere take the lead in organizing a productive event where active women from all walks of life in the city of Tampere participated in one giant step. The workshop was spearheaded by Hanne von Weissenberg and Maria Haapavaara, who facilitated the activities held at the Catacomb in the Kaleva Church function hall. It was attended by diverse groups, including or involving women from various social and ethnic backgrounds and of different cultural and religious orientations.

In the workshop, one of the topics that were highlighted was activism. To end violence against women and girls will aim to mobilize society to become active in preventing violence against women. Furthermore, to stand in solidarity with women's rights activists and to support feminist movements worldwide to resist the rollback on women's rights and call for a world free from violence against women and girls. In our present world today, violence against women continues to be an obstacle to achieving equality, development, and peace and fulfilling women's and girls' human rights. Therefore, everyone's support is encouraged to strengthen the information drive and to leave no one behind. Let us advocate for self-awareness on WOMAN, LIFE, and LIBERTY. Working with great and unique women who assert their responsibilities and exercise their rights to freedom of expression was a privilege. These women are the nation builders of our community in our society. Regardless of religious background, we gathered together to build the dreams and aspirations we desire to shape for us and for all women and young girls to follow. Every woman and girl deserves to live in a society free from violence and fear, war and slavery. Recognizing the urgent need for the universal application concerning women, the rights and principles concerning equality, security, liberty, integrity, and dignity of all human beings on this planet is an integral part of the global community to take action.
