Tragedy and Outcry: A Call for Justice and Awareness
By: Fargo Bcn
The grief that envelops us cannot be adequately expressed in mere words, yet we must try; we owe this to the memory of Rojin and Narin, two innocent lives taken too soon. I couldn’t remain silent, bearing my anger and sorrow alone. Still, the tragic death of 8-year-old Narin Guran in Diyarbakir in September and followed by the incomprehensible loss of 21-year-old Rojin Kabaiş demand our attention. It's been a month since Narin's life was tragically cut short, and the question on everyone's lips remains the same: what happened to her case?
As a mother, though not personally connected to these young girls, my heart aches for the families grappling with unbearable loss. The parents are left with a harrowing question that echoes in their minds: WHY? What sinister forces robbed them of their daughters? The pain of uncertainty is an unbearable weight that no family should bear.
Rojin Kabaiş, a promising college student from Diyarbakir who was taking up a course in Children's Education at Yüzüncü Yil University in Van, vanished on September 27 during what should have been an innocent walk by the lakeshore of Lake Van; eighteen days passed with desperate searches and relentless hope until her lifeless body was discovered on the shores of Molla Kasim village. In the days following her disappearance, clues emerged—her phone was located shortly after she went missing, and her scarf was recovered a few days before her body was found. Yet these revelations did not bring solace; instead, they intensified the chilling mystery surrounding her death.
On the evening of her disappearance, Rojin spoke with her mother, her vibrant future ahead of her. When she left the safety of her dormitory for a peaceful lakeside stroll, she was captured on CCTV, but the footage faded away as she moved beyond the camera's reach. The narrative that unfolded during those critical minutes remains shrouded in darkness, a silence that echoes through the hearts of those who knew her.
This tragedy has caused a ripple effect that extends far beyond Rojin's family and friends; it has sent shockwaves through the entire Kurdish community, raising alarms about a pattern of violence and injustice that continues to affect countless lives across Turkey. The lack of resolution in these cases breeds fear and distrust, especially among communities already vulnerable to systemic issues.
Collectively, we must amplify the voices of those who demand justice. The families of Rojin and Narin deserve answers, closure, and, most importantly, justice. We must call upon authorities to investigate these cases with the urgency and gravity they deserve, ensuring no more families are left in the painful limbo of uncertainty. It is not enough to mourn; we must also mobilize our communities, raise awareness, and work diligently to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
Let us join our voices in solidarity for the souls of Rojin and Narin. May they rest in eternal peace, and may their stories inspire change. Our condolences go out to their bereaved families, friends, loved ones and affected communities. Our commitment must be to shine a light on the paths of justice and safety for all. Together, we can honor their memories and strive for a world where no parent has to endure such heartache again.
